Data Governance - Mission, Vision

The competitive environment, external conditions (regulators, laws) and modern technology require us to dramatically change and improve how we work with information.

Introduction

The competitive environment, external conditions (regulators, laws) and modern technology require us to dramatically change and improve how we work with information.

  • Information and Data are assets and should be treated as assets.
  • Working with information has become the most frequently undertaken task in a company and its share of a company's total activity keeps growing.
  • When working with information, how we work and how effective we are determines our success and our ability to even survive.

For these reasons, it's necessary to initiate a systematic development of an entirely new capability that will allow us to better control, profit from and secure our information - this capability is called "Data Governance" (DG).

Vision

To bring benefits to the whole company, we need to both extract the maximum value from our information and at the same time protect it.

Mission

"We are working to ensure that our data becomes, every day, a little more reliable, more accessible and more secure."

Additional information

Data, Information, Knowledge

Data represents facts in the form of text, numbers, graphs or other formats. Information is data presented in context. Knowledge is the ability to understand information and use it effectively.

Information as an asset

Information is an asset with specific characteristics that are fundamentally different from traditional assets such as land, labour or capital.

  • The value of information increases if it is maintained at a high quality, is up-to-date, understandable and above all used properly and frequently, whereas
  • information value decreases when is not used or of low quality.
  • The principal value of information can easily be negative, if it is used incorrectly, is of poor quality or even abused.

additional specific properties of information are that it is very easy to:

  • copy
  • change its shape and form
  • move
  • steal
  • and it ages rapidly
